Buying or selling a home is a big decision. No matter what brings someone to this point, whether it's a life change or just needing a change, there are tons of decisions to make– from budget to location and layout to design. You can make the entire process easier if your first decision is picking the right realtor. You want someone who puts you first, not their commission. Someone like the team at MR10 Realty, who will treat you like family, because that’s the only way they know how to do business. And they know all about making the big decisions.

Michael and Martha Riordan are not lifelong realtors. They both had long, successful careers in other fields before sort of “falling into” real estate. A few years ago, Michael was retiring after 27 years at AT&T headquarters and didn’t really know what to do next. Martha was working in radio sales and had a realtor for a client who was looking for someone to come in and manage processes, systems, and people to help her company grow. She offered Michael the job.

Taking it was the right decision. Michael was the perfect fit and jumped right in as manager and Principal Broker– bringing his own unique brand of positivity and creativity to the business. He knew success depended on having the right people on his team. It took two years for Michael to finally talk Martha into changing careers and joining him as a realtor, and the team really took off, more than doubling the company’s sales volume in just seven years.

They were obviously good at this. It didn’t take long for Michael and Martha to realize they wanted to form their own culture and brand and didn’t want to do it through someone else’s ideas and principles. Could they really do this? Build a business as successful as their marriage? Talk about big decisions. 

In 2021, MR10 Realty was born. Right at the kitchen table, where so many important life decisions had been made. But it was the right decision, for them, and their clients.

Working with your spouse isn’t for everyone (more on that in a later blog!) Michael and Martha know each other’s strengths and use those to help their clients. Martha excels at networking– getting out in the community, meeting people and finding opportunities. Once she knows what a client needs, she won’t stop advocating for them until she succeeds. Michael is the ideas and details man, setting up systems and processes to keep the company on track to reach goals, learn, and grow– always with a positive attitude. 

“What really works though, is that both of us truly like to help people and don’t mind saying yes when others are in need,” says Michael. 

“We strive to not be pushy at all. It’s not about us, it’s always about the client. Home purchases and sales are huge events in peoples’ lives and we don’t take that for granted. There’s always a solution - we find the one that satisfies their goals in the best way possible,” says Martha. “It’s a great feeling when someone really needs that purchase or sale to happen, and we get that done for them so that they can move to the next step - whether that helps them move closer to family, sell their aging parents’ home, have more space for growing family or it’s a financial move they need to make.”
